COLOMBO NATIONAL MUSEUM

  • Established in 1877, the “Colombo National Museum” with its iconic building, representative of Italian architecture, is the most popular museum in the country. It exhibits numerous rare antiques, priceless paintings and cultural artifacts that portray the proud history of Sri Lanka, the most prominent amongst them being the Crown Jewels & Throne of the last King of Ceylon.

INDEPENDENCE MEMORIAL HALL

  • “Independence Memorial Hall” is the national monument built in 1948 to commemorate the independence of Sri Lanka from the British rule. This majestic open structure, having intricately carved granite pillars, reminiscent of Kandyan architecture, is surrounded by well manicured lawns and is a serene location for one to unwind.

TOWN HALL

  • It was the renowned Scottish town planner, Professor Patrick Geddes, who in 1921, recommended that the Council should construct a large central and dignified building, to house the Mayor's Office, the Municipal Council and a Public Library and you would find this impressive “Town Hall” aptly built opposite the lush greenery of Viharamahadevi Park.

GANGARAMAYA TEMPLE

  • “Gangaramaya Temple” is not a typical Sri Lankan temple, as it encompass a mix of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese architecture. The temple’s most unique feature is its treasure-trove of Buddha statues from the world over, along with statues of Hindu deities, and many antique collectibles. The museum within, proudly houses one of the smallest Buddha statues, viewed only through a magnifying glass.

GALLE FACE GREEN

  • Situated in proximity of the Port City and Harbor, “Galle Face Green” is a 500 meter stretch of green terrace, facing the Indian Ocean. It is the largest open recreational space in the city of Colombo an is popular amongst families and picnickers eager on witnessing a gorgeous evening sunset, whilst treating to an array of local street food, found in plenty.
